Purpose
SG Lawyer Reviews publishes profiles of lawyers and law firms to help readers research legal service providers in Singapore.
This policy explains what profile verification means, how information is checked, and the limitations of a verified profile.
What Verification Means
A verified profile means that SG Lawyer Reviews has completed specified checks relating to the identity or professional information shown on the profile.
Depending on the profile, verification may include confirmation of:
- The lawyer’s name
- Current law firm
- Current practising status
- Position or title
- Office contact information
- Practice areas
- Professional qualifications
- Profile ownership or authorised representative
- Information supplied directly by the lawyer or firm
Verification does not mean that SG Lawyer Reviews:
- Endorses the lawyer or law firm
- Guarantees competence
- Guarantees ethical conduct
- Guarantees client satisfaction
- Guarantees professional standing indefinitely
- Has reviewed confidential client work
- Guarantees the outcome of any matter
- Has confirmed every marketing statement
Official Verification Sources
We may check information against official or authoritative sources.
The LSRA oversees the regulation of law practice entities and the registration of foreign lawyers in Singapore. Its public search tool lists Singapore solicitors with a current practising certificate.
Other sources may include:
- Law firm websites
- Official lawyer biographies
- Professional organisations
- Court and government publications
- Corporate records
- Written confirmation from the lawyer or firm
- Identity and authority documents
A profile may include information that is not available through an official register. Such information may be verified through other evidence or identified as self-reported.
Verification Levels
SG Lawyer Reviews may use different verification labels.
Directory Profile
The profile is based mainly on publicly available information and has not been claimed by the subject.
Information Checked
Core information has been reviewed against one or more suitable sources.
Claimed Profile
The lawyer or an authorised law firm representative has claimed access to the profile.
Verified Profile
Core professional information and the authority of the person managing the profile have been checked.
Enhanced or Sponsored Profile
The firm or lawyer has purchased additional features or visibility.
An enhanced or sponsored profile is not automatically a verified profile. Likewise, payment does not constitute professional endorsement.
Claiming a Profile
A lawyer or law firm representative may request control of a profile.
We may require:
- A professional email address
- The claimant’s name and position
- Confirmation from the law firm
- Proof of authority
- Identity documentation
- A declaration that the submitted information is accurate
- Agreement to our terms and policies
We may decline a claim when authority cannot be established.
Information That May Be Added
An authorised profile manager may submit:
- Biography
- Practice areas
- Languages
- Education
- Professional qualifications
- Awards
- Publications
- Speaking engagements
- Office details
- Consultation information
- Professional photograph
- Official links
Submitted information remains subject to editorial review.
We may reject wording that is:
- Misleading
- Unsupported
- Excessively promotional
- Irrelevant
- Inconsistent with official information
- Likely to create an unjustified expectation
- Inappropriate for a professional directory
Singapore’s professional conduct rules address legal publicity and prohibit misleading, deceptive, inaccurate, false, or unverifiable publicity. Therefore, profile claims and promotional statements may require supporting evidence or qualification.
Practice-Area Verification
Listing a lawyer under a practice area does not represent specialist accreditation unless an appropriate recognised accreditation is expressly identified.
Practice areas may be supported by:
- The lawyer’s official profile
- The law firm’s website
- Publicly documented experience
- Relevant publications
- Written confirmation
- Other credible information
We may remove or qualify a practice-area claim when supporting evidence is insufficient.
Awards and Recognition
Awards may be listed when relevant information is supplied, including:
- Award name
- Awarding organisation
- Year
- Category
- Recipient
We may distinguish between:
- Competitive editorial recognition
- Peer-reviewed recognition
- Client-voted awards
- Paid participation
- Sponsored awards
- Membership-based badges
The presence of an award does not guarantee quality or future outcomes.
Client and Matter Claims
Claims such as “leading,” “top,” “best,” “highly successful,” or “specialist” may require qualification or supporting evidence.
Confidential client names and matter details should not be submitted without proper authority.
We may paraphrase, remove, or decline claims that cannot be verified or that may mislead readers.
Updating Profiles
Lawyers and law firms should notify us when:
- A lawyer changes firms
- A practising status changes
- A profile contains an error
- An office moves
- Contact details change
- A practice area changes
- A lawyer retires
- A law firm merges, closes, or changes name
Updates may be submitted through business@sglawyerreviews.com.
Reverification
We may periodically recheck profiles. However, verification is accurate only to the extent of the information available at the time of the check.
A verification label may be removed or suspended when:
- Information becomes outdated
- The lawyer leaves the firm
- Official information conflicts with the profile
- The profile manager loses authority
- Required evidence is not provided
- The profile violates our policies
- A material professional-status issue requires clarification
Corrections and Personal Data
Lawyers may request correction of inaccurate profile information through our Corrections Policy.
Where personal data is involved, we will also consider applicable access, correction, accuracy, retention, and protection obligations. The PDPC states that organisations should take reasonable steps to ensure personal data is accurate and complete when it is likely to be used to make a decision affecting the individual or disclosed to another organisation.
Verification Is Not Endorsement
A verified profile confirms only the checks described by SG Lawyer Reviews.
Users remain responsible for evaluating:
- Relevant experience
- Current practising status
- Conflicts of interest
- Proposed scope
- Fees
- Communication
- Engagement terms
- Suitability for the matter
Readers may also consult official sources before engaging a lawyer.
