1. About This Policy
SG Lawyer Reviews is an independent lawyer and law firm review, directory, ranking, comparison, and legal information platform focused on Singapore.
Advertising, sponsorships, enhanced profiles, and other commercial arrangements may help fund the operation of sglawyerreviews.com and support the continued publication of lawyer profiles, law firm reviews, rankings, legal guides, and legal industry updates.
This Advertising and Sponsorship Policy explains:
- The types of commercial arrangements we may accept
- How paid content is identified
- How we separate commercial relationships from editorial decisions
- The standards that apply to advertisers and sponsors
- How users may raise concerns about advertising
This policy applies to advertisements, sponsored content, paid directory placements, enhanced profiles, referral arrangements, affiliate relationships, and other commercial content appearing on SG Lawyer Reviews.
2. Editorial Independence
Commercial relationships do not entitle an advertiser, sponsor, lawyer, or law firm to control the independent editorial work of SG Lawyer Reviews.
An advertiser or sponsor cannot purchase:
- A favourable law firm review
- A favourable lawyer review
- A higher editorial score
- A guaranteed organic ranking position
- Inclusion in an editorial ranking
- The removal of legitimate criticism
- The suppression of an accurate correction
- The removal of a competitor
- Editorial approval over independent content
- An undisclosed recommendation or endorsement
Our editorial team retains control over:
- Which lawyers and law firms are reviewed
- Which firms are included in rankings
- The criteria used in reviews and rankings
- The wording of editorial conclusions
- The publication of corrections
- The inclusion of strengths and limitations
- The selection of legal news and guide topics
A commercial relationship may be disclosed within relevant content where it could reasonably affect a reader’s understanding of the relationship.

Not every commercial product listed above will necessarily be available at all times.
The availability, price, duration, placement, and features of commercial products may be determined under a separate advertising agreement.
4. Advertising Labels
Paid content should be presented in a manner that allows a reasonable user to distinguish it from independent editorial content.
Depending on the arrangement, we may use labels such as:
- Sponsored
- Paid Partnership
- Sponsored Content
- Featured Listing
- Promoted Profile
- Partner Content
- Affiliate Disclosure
The applicable label may appear above, beside, or within the commercial content.
We will not intentionally design paid content to mislead users into believing that it is an independent editorial review or organic ranking.
5. Sponsored Content
Sponsored content is content that has been commissioned, funded, materially supported, or approved for publication as part of a commercial arrangement.
Sponsored content may be written by:
- The SG Lawyer Reviews editorial or commercial team
- The sponsor
- A lawyer or law firm
- A third-party writer
- A subject-matter contributor
Where sponsored content is supplied by an advertiser or sponsor, SG Lawyer Reviews may edit it for:
- Accuracy
- Clarity
- Grammar
- Formatting
- Relevance
- Legal risk
- Compliance with this policy
- Consistency with our publication standards
Publication of sponsored content does not mean that SG Lawyer Reviews independently endorses every claim made in the content.
The advertiser remains responsible for ensuring that its statements, representations, professional claims, and promotional materials comply with applicable laws, professional obligations, and advertising standards.
6. Featured and Enhanced Profiles
Lawyers and law firms may be offered paid profile features, such as:
- Priority directory placement
- Additional photographs
- Videos
- Expanded biographies
- Additional practice-area information
- Additional enquiry options
- Featured badges
- Profile analytics
- Social media links
- Prominent contact buttons
- Greater visibility within relevant directory pages
A paid profile must be identified as featured, promoted, sponsored, or enhanced where the commercial nature of the placement would not otherwise be clear.
Purchasing an enhanced or featured profile does not automatically provide:
- A Verified Profile status
- A favourable editorial review
- A higher editorial score
- A higher organic ranking
- Removal of user feedback
- Endorsement by SG Lawyer Reviews
- Endorsement by a regulator or professional body
Profile verification is handled separately under our Profile Verification Policy.
7. Sponsored Placements on Ranking Pages
SG Lawyer Reviews may display a sponsored placement on a page that also contains an editorial ranking.
Where this occurs, the sponsored placement should be:
- Clearly labelled
- Visually distinguishable
- Separated from the organic ranking methodology
- Excluded from the calculation of editorial ranking positions
A law firm cannot purchase the number-one organic position in an independently prepared ranking.
A sponsored placement does not indicate that the firm was assessed as superior to firms appearing in the organic ranking.
8. Advertising Standards
Advertisements published on SG Lawyer Reviews must be lawful, accurate, responsible, and capable of reasonable substantiation.
Advertisements must not:
- Guarantee the outcome of a legal matter
- Misrepresent a lawyer’s practising status
- Misrepresent a law firm’s licence or registration
- Falsely claim specialist accreditation
- Falsely claim awards or rankings
- Use fabricated testimonials
- Create unjustified expectations
- Contain material omissions that make a claim misleading
- Present SG Lawyer Reviews as a regulator
- Imply regulatory approval where none exists
- Discriminate unlawfully
- Promote illegal services
- Contain threats, abuse, or harassment
- Infringe intellectual property rights
- Include confidential client information without proper authority
The Singapore Code of Advertising Practice is administered by the Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore and promotes ethical standards in advertising through industry self-regulation. Advertisers appearing on SG Lawyer Reviews remain responsible for complying with applicable advertising standards.
9. Advertising by Lawyers and Law Firms
Lawyers and law firms are responsible for ensuring that publicity appearing on their behalf complies with their professional obligations.
Part 5 of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules 2015 contains rules relating to touting and publicity. The guiding principle states that a legal practitioner must not engage in publicity or procure work in circumstances that affect the dignity and standing of the legal profession.
SG Lawyer Reviews may request evidence supporting promotional claims, including claims such as:
- Leading
- Best
- Top
- Specialist
- Expert
- Most experienced
- Award-winning
- Highest-rated
- Number one
- Successful
We may reject, qualify, edit, suspend, or remove promotional claims that appear misleading, unverifiable, exaggerated, or inconsistent with our publication standards.
Our review of an advertisement does not constitute legal approval or confirmation that the advertisement complies with every professional obligation applicable to the advertiser.
10. Testimonials and Client Reviews in Advertising
Testimonials used in advertisements should:
- Reflect genuine experiences
- Be used with appropriate permission
- Avoid misleading omissions
- Disclose material incentives
- Avoid guarantees of future outcomes
- Remain sufficiently current and relevant
- Protect client confidentiality
SG Lawyer Reviews may require evidence showing that a testimonial is authentic and has been authorised for publication.
A law firm must not present a paid, incentivised, or selectively edited testimonial in a manner that materially misleads users.
User reviews published independently under our User Review Policy are separate from advertiser-supplied testimonials.
11. Referral and Lead-Generation Arrangements
SG Lawyer Reviews may receive compensation when a user:
- Submits an enquiry
- Requests to be contacted
- Selects a participating lawyer or law firm
- Is matched with a participating provider
- Purchases an advertised service
- Follows an affiliate link
Where reasonably appropriate, we will disclose the existence of a referral, affiliate, or lead-generation relationship.
A commercial arrangement does not guarantee that:
- The lawyer will accept the matter
- The law firm is suitable for the user
- No conflict of interest exists
- The user will receive a particular fee
- The matter has legal merit
- A favourable outcome will be achieved
Users should independently assess the lawyer’s experience, fees, practising status, scope of engagement, availability, and suitability.
12. Personal Data and Enquiries
When an advertisement or sponsored profile contains an enquiry form, personal data may be collected by SG Lawyer Reviews, the advertiser, or both.
The form should identify or explain:
- Who will receive the enquiry
- The purpose of collecting the information
- Whether the enquiry may be shared
- Where the relevant privacy information may be found
SG Lawyer Reviews will handle personal data under its Privacy Policy.
Advertisers receiving personal data through SG Lawyer Reviews are responsible for handling that information in accordance with applicable data protection requirements and their own privacy policies.
13. Cookies and Advertising Technology
SG Lawyer Reviews may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Deliver advertisements

- Improve website performance
Where required, users may be provided with controls for non-essential advertising and analytics cookies.
Additional information is available in our Privacy Policy and, where published, our Cookie Policy.
14. Advertiser Conflicts of Interest
Where a lawyer or law firm is both an advertiser and the subject of editorial coverage, SG Lawyer Reviews may disclose the relationship where it is material.
Advertising staff should not determine:
- Editorial scores
- Ranking positions
- Review conclusions
- Correction outcomes
- User review decisions
Further information is available in our Conflicts of Interest Policy.
15. Acceptance and Removal of Advertising
SG Lawyer Reviews may accept or decline an advertisement at its discretion, subject to any applicable agreement.
We may refuse, suspend, or remove advertising where:
- The content violates this policy
- Claims cannot be substantiated
- The advertisement may mislead users
- A professional or regulatory concern arises
- The advertiser fails to pay an amount due
- The advertiser breaches an agreement
- The advertisement creates a security risk
- The content infringes third-party rights
